Sealy has been building mattresses for over 140 years. Their primary engineering contribution to the industry is the Posturepedic coil system — a zoned support approach that uses different coil gauges in different regions of the mattress to correspond to different areas of the body.
The lower back gets firmer support to prevent lumbar sag. The shoulder zone gets softer coils to allow pressure relief for side sleepers. The hip zone is calibrated between the two. The underlying principle is that the human body doesn’t distribute weight uniformly across a mattress surface, and a mattress that applies uniform firmness forces the spine to compensate — which is how a mattress can feel fine for a few months and create back problems over years of use.

Posturepedic Innerspring: Sealy’s traditional coil collection with the zoned coil system as the support foundation. Available in a range of comfort layers above the coil — from firm with minimal top padding to plush with substantial foam comfort layers.
Posturepedic Hybrid: A coil system with memory foam or latex layers added between the coils and the sleep surface. Hybrids provide the responsive support of coils with the pressure-relief properties of foam — a combination that works well for combination sleepers and couples with different comfort preferences.
Posturepedic Foam: All-foam construction with Sealy’s targeted support zones built into the foam layers rather than a coil system. Better motion isolation than innerspring models — relevant for couples where one partner is a restless sleeper.
